Cracking a Geode

Journal, Short Story

Dear Friend,

Short Story A’s first and third drafts were not as horrendous as I thought. They merely needed to be set aside for time, cut, fused, smoothen, polished and cleaned.

Short Story

Dear Friend,

Now that I had accomplished the first draft of Book B, I shift my focus to Short Story A, the predecessor of Book A. I wrote three drafts for it so far. The second and third were unlike the first due to changes in point-of-view narration and from being plot-driven to character-driven. Because I left the drafts alone since April, 2019 to work on Book A and B, I believe I will return to my drafts with a fresh mind. I will examine the first and third drafts for many days this time. Maybe I would integrate them. Alas, the challenge is its balance.

Very Sincerely Yours,

Quandaries on the Existence of Book C

Journal

Dear Friend,

Five days passed since I typed the last word on the first draft of Book B. Before I relax from writing, I decided to continue a creative story that I did not have an outline for; thus, it stretched my mind on “what will or could happen next?”. My intention for this story is not to have it published, yet I found myself intrigued by its allegorical theme. The allegories drove its plot and my characters. Shall I hope for its future as a hardcover? Or shall I continue its progress during my spare time without a second draft in mind? Because I yearn to see my characters’ developmental outcomes, I recorded it in my Writing Log for safe keeping.

Shall I end what I began? It depends on the Conductor Himself.

Very Sincerely Yours,

The Ticket

The Ticket

Dear Friend,

I accepted the Ticket. The Ticket that multitudes rejected. It came in my mail, sent by the Conductor. It had no class nor compartment number. At once, I left my house for the Train Station.

At the Platform, I observed four people present for the Train: the Conductor stood next to the Narrow Door of the Carriage, a woman stopped next to the Conductor, a man walked towards the woman, and I followed behind him. The woman gave her ticket to the Conductor. Upon seeing it, the Conductor shook His head disapprovingly. Furious that He rejected her fake ticket, she stomped off. Next, the Conductor checked the man’s ticket, and gestured for him to enter. The man carried bulky luggages in both hands. He tried to enter; howbeit, his bags prevented him to enter the Narrow Door. The Conductor shook His head. He requested the man to leave his baggage behind. Unwilling to part with his belongings, the man sadly left the Station.

I stepped forward and give my Ticket to the Conductor. Unlike the man, I carried one item tucked under my arm. It was the Book. He bid me to enter.

Very Sincerely Yours,
Clarissa Choo-Choo Train
